Yet to win but he’s had just the four starts which have been solely on the all-weather, including last time in the all-weather 3yo sprint final at Lingfield. Racing against some much higher rated rivals and drawn a bit wide, keen early, he never really got the chance to open up as he got hampered when trying to raise a challenge 2f out, and although the RP race description says he weakened over a furlong out, I beg to differ, in fact, after watching the race several times, I think he was actually staying on at the end and wanted to go further. He’s racing under totally different conditions tomorrow and if becoming a non-runner due to the easy ground on his debut run suggests he won’t like it, then he might not run. But like I say, that was his debut so connections might not have wanted him racing on such ground so early in his career, and despite not being a great deal in his breeding to suggest he’ll act on ground with soft in the description, he does have quite a high knee action so it’s possible he will. It’s also his first run at Chester, but it’s the same case for most of his rivals and being a half-brother to the late and great ‘Kachy’ who won 3-times at Chester, including his debut and remained unbeaten here, it’s possible that he could improve under these conditions. He’s got a wide draw to overcome but I really like the look of this horse and back in a handicap I’m willing to take the chance that he’ll excel tomorrow over this longer trip. It’s Dascombe & Kingscote at the double, the same combo who had a winner today with ‘Paws For Thought’ and at a nice price, I think Bakersboy looks worth a punt.
